Modern Opinion On Beauty

“Inner beauty is the real beauty” we have heard this often from the wise men and appreciated it. Many a times it has also served as a cover for the ones who are not “beautiful” in the conventional term. They may be called ugly, not good looking etc on the forefront but they have been referred to as beautiful from within. What we then ask is…is it still true in the modern context? Is a person considered beautiful if he or she doesn’t exude the glamour necessary in today’s world? Nowadays the term beauty is synonymous with present ability and gorgeousness. As soon as a person is termed as ‘beautiful’ the general image that is formed is of a pretty lady or handsome man.

Nobody thinks in terms of the beauty of the heart. Again beauty has been divided into various spheres. One of them is ‘natural’ and the other is ‘acquired’. In the modern opinion a naturally beautiful person is one who has a pretty face structure, good figure, good skin and radiant hair; while an ‘artificially’ beautiful person is one who has gone through artificial means to alter the structure of skin and hair (straightening, perming, and smoothening) or plastic surgery to get acquired beauty.

The ‘inner beauty’ or ‘beauty of heart’ is no where in sight in this modern world. Beauty now simply denotes outer beauty i.e. physical appearance. Whether natural or acquired, if the person manages to grab eyeballs in public, he or she is considered attractive and hence beautiful. In contrast a person with a beautiful heart may go largely unnoticed because of his or her physical unattractiveness. In the modern opinion then the saying that ‘ a person should be beautiful from within to be really beautiful ‘ does not hold much water. It is largely now a world which prefers physical beauty.
